Be it reel or real love, celebrities relationships have a way of touching lives far and wide. Jay Z & Beyoncé

No coverage of successful power relationships can be complete without the mention of HOV and Bey. According to different sources, the two met sometime between 1997 and 2000. Their relationship however only came to be confirmed sometime in 2002 after the release of ‘03 Bonnie & Clyde’, their first collaboration. 

Just like the real Bonnie and Clyde took on the world side by side, Jay Z and Beyoncé have remained a truly powerful couple. Before they announced their engagement, the duo could be seen together in basketball games, the red carpet and in a few more songs. 

By 2003 their partnership was already bearing fruit, with Beyoncé releasing her first solo album and Jay Z starting to make a comeback. They got married on 4th April, 2008 and instead of rings, they got matching IV tattoos. Both were born on the fourth of the month, hence the fascination with the number; B actually released an album titled 4 in 2011.

Try beating how this power couple did it: At the start of her performance at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, Mrs Carter announced to the world, “Tonight I want you to stand up on your feet; I want you to feel the love that’s growing inside of me”. After which she lifted her blazer to reveal a baby bump!

Maggie Gyllenhaal & Peter Sarsgaard

In a world where Hollywood couples live scandalous lives, much like the characters they portray on screen, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard seem to have escaped the curse. The two have been together for a total of over 16 years, since they began dating in mid 2002. 

They got engaged in April 2006 a few months before the birth of their first child in October, later in the year. Since then, they have had a beautiful marriage which has produced a second kid and a strong partnership. 

Sarsgaard started his acting career in 1995 with a guest appearance in Law & Order. This was followed by several other TV gigs, before he turned to film roles. This proved to be an excellent career move culminating in nominations for a Golden Globe Award and an Independent Spirit Award in 2003, one year after meeting the future Mrs. Sarsgaard.

Maggie comes from the greater Gyllenhaal family, one of the most prominent Hollywood families. She joined the family business early in life, appearing in a teenage film role alongside her younger brother Jake Gyllenhaal. She has won several awards and nominations for her work in both TV and film. 

An encouraging tit bit about their family is their preferences when it comes to meat. Peter is a vegan, Maggie is a pescatarian while the kids eat meat. Guess who gets to cook meat for the children? If you guessed the mom then you are wrong; it’s Peter, the only who doesn’t eat any kind of animal flesh, does the meat. How’s that for #RelatioshipsGoals!

Emma Stone & Andrew Garfield

The relationship between Emma and Andrew is still in its early stages, but it has all the hallmarks of a great union. Like most hollywood couples, the two met during the film production. This was in 2010 in the set of The Amazing Spider-Man, where Andrew starred as Peter Parker and Emma as Gwen Stacy, his love interest. 

They got close during filming, though Emma was still in a relationship with Kieran Culkin, her boyfriend of two years. Andrew was at the time in a three-year relationship with Shannon Woodward, an actress best known for the science fiction TV series Westworld. 

Their respective relationships did not last long after they shared sets and the limelight. Both had split from their partners by mid-2011. This opened rumours that they were secretly dating. Much of this remained gossip, until sometime in 2012 when they were spotted in public show of affection. 

With their secret now in the open, the lovebirds could from then on be seen out and about, hand in hand. The filming and promotion tour of The Amazing Spider-Man Sequel in 2013 to 2014 brought them even closer. 

From there on, they in appear in red carpet events together, Emma is spotted carrying Andrew’s dry cleaning, and he is seen giving her a standing ovation during award Golden Globe awards.

Chelsea Clinton & Marc Mezvinsky

This one of America’s most connected power couple. Their union is a confluence of the political and business worlds. Chelsea Clinton is the daughter of former US president Bill Clinton and 2016 Democratic Party presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. 

Chelsea is has worked as a special correspondent for NBC News for about 4 years. She later left the job to work in her family’s non-profits, Clinton Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative. She is currently a board member of the foundations and also holds similar position in School of American Ballet, Common Sense Media, IAC/InterActiveCorp and Weill Cornell Medical College.

Marc Mezvinsky is an investor and son of former members of congress, Edward Mezvinsky and Marjorie Margolies. He has worked as an investment banker at Goldman and Sachs before going into private equity. He went on to partner with former colleagues in founding Eaglevale Partners, a hedge fund. 

Their relationship is rumored to have begun sometime in 2005. However they had known each other for longer, having met in 1993 at a retreat. They got engaged in 2009 and got married in 2010 in an interfaith ceremony; Chelsea is a Methodist Christian while Mark is Jewish. The couple has been blessed with two children, a girl and a boy.

David Beckham & Victoria Adams

Beckham is a retired English professional footballer whose career span for 20 years. He is married to Victoria Adams, an English businesswoman who started off as a singer. The power couple started dating in 1997 after meeting during a football match in London. Becks however already had some feelings for his future wife, having had seen her in music videos of the Spice Girls, the all-girls pop group.

Both were stars in their own right which led to an almost cult-like fascination with their relationship. As Becks puts it in his autobiography, “My wife picked me out of a soccer sticker book. And I chose her off the telly … It felt straight away like we’d always been meant to be together”.

After their first meeting, they began dating in secret. This went on for about three months before hawk-eyed paparazzi and the tabloids caught up with them. With the relationship out in the open, it was time to make it official. What followed was an engagement befitting royals:

On 25th January, 1998, Becks proposed to Victoria with a 3-carat football-shaped cut diamond ring. He also had some bling of his own with the pair donning engagement bands with 96 diamonds costing about £200,000. Then came their firstborn and a wedding later.

The happy couple has had a relatively scandal-free relationship. The most trying moment came in 2004 when Beckham was accused of extramarital affairs with Sarah Marbeck, a model and Rebecca Loos, his assistant. The couple was able to weather the storm with Victoria standing by her man.

LL Cool J & Simone Smith

LL Cool J, full names ‘Ladies Love Cool James’, is arguably one of the most successful artists of all time. He is married to Simone Smith, a TV personality and a business lady. The couple has been married for 23 years, a time that has seen them go through many ups and down, but always presenting a united front.

Their marriage has seen LL Cool J transitions from rap music to a career as TV and film actor. His dedication which he has attributed to his wife’s support culminated in a Blockbuster Entertainment Award for a 1999 film. Their partnership has also seen Simone launch a jewelry line, SIS (Simone I. Smith) .

Has their relationship always been easy? Not really. They were briefly separated after their second child was born. Another trying moment was in 2004 when Simone was diagnosed with bone cancer. This led to an invasive surgery after which she spent the following two and a half years learning how to walk again.

This was a time during which their support system got really tested, and it persevered! As LL put it in an interview with Oprah, “You don’t abandon someone in that foxhole, you know, you got to be there in that foxhole with them. So I made some decisions professionally and decided to be by Simone’s side during that period”

Peter Godwin & Joanna Coles 

This is a union between media moguls. Peter Godwin is a renowned author and a former human rights lawyer. He is a Zimbabwean native who has worked extensively in different forms of media including script writing, journalism and documentary filmmaking. Among his other accolades is being a former president of PEN America, an organization that promotes literally culture.

Joanna Coles is household name in media circles. She was the first Chief Content Officer for Hearst Magazines a former editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan, a leading women fashion magazine. She is also an executive producer of The Bold Type, a TV series based on her life, and Running in Heels, a TV reality show on the life of three interns at Marie Claire. She has also worked for The Times and The Guardian.

The couple met in mid-1990s in London. This was followed by a brief courtship which led to the Mrs’ pregnancy with Thomas, their first born son. They wrote a memoir based on the pregnancy, which was published in 2000 by HarperCollins. After their second son was born, they got married.

Fame and money does not get into their heads, this is evident by the simplicity of their wedding: When asked about the ceremony, Joanna said “(we) went down to City Hall, got married, had a quick glass of champagne at Bubby’s on North Moore Street, gave each other a quick nod, and I was back at work before lunchtime. I am deeply unsentimental” 

Tom Brady & Gisele Bundchen

Sports couples in are some of the most famous people in the world. Not only do their on-field activities keep you entertained but their off-field lives also inspire greatness. Gisele and Tom just happen to be one of the most beloved and arguably the best sports couple, in all sports!

Tom is a quarterback for the New England Patriots, a professional American football team in the NFL. He is considered one of the best quarterbacks of all time. Among his many accomplishments is being the second player to have won 5 Super Bowls. What even makes him stand out more is the fact he has accomplished this with a single team.

This impressive run has seen Tom become a celebrity, and it goes without saying that he has attracted other celebrities as partners.

He dated Bridget Moynahan, an actress and model. The relationship was over in less than 3 years but did lead to the birth of his first born son, John Edward Thomas Moynahan. However it’s his second relationship with Gisele Bundchen, a Brazillian supermodel that really inspires #RelationshipGoals. 

The two met during a blind date which we are left to guess went very well. This was in 2006; fast forward to early 2009 and the happy couple got married in an intimate ceremony. Their marriage has been steady and seen the birth of 2 children.

What makes the couple great? Their mutual support! Bray has come to Gisele’s defence when she was criticized for her work in environmental activism. Gisele has also been very supportive of Tom’s career, to the point of bashing opposing teams or fellow teammates whom she feels have let down her man!
