It may be the off-season for her smash hit Girls, but that doesn’t mean creator and star Lena Dunham is taking a break. While we’re all still processing the events of the last season, Dunham has recently announced her Lenny Letter initiative, which she will be pursuing with her friend/co-writer/co-producer Jenni Konner.

Lenny is an e-newsletter where, as the website says, “there’s no such thing as too much information.” The emails won’t start sending out until fall of this year, but the social media account are up and running already. Posts are already being made regularly on the Facebook page, covering topics such as style and makeup, art, feminism, music, and more! A lot of the posts are personal recommendations for music, books, or style tips from either Lena or other members of the Lenny team. To receive the Lenny letter once it starts in full, all you have to do is subscribe through their website.

It’s really cool to see such a big star doing something to engage with her fans on such a personal level. It feels very similar to Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls at the Party but for a bit of an older, more politically minded audience. With Dunham being such an outspoken celebrity on social media, I think anyone who pays attention to her will already have a bit of a feel for the content of the newsletter. It’s a cool way for such a high profile person to try and make a difference in the lives of her fans, by sharing tips and trying to educate on issues that are important to her.

As big of a fan of Lena as I am, I hope that the content is a bit more than just her own personal interests. So far, based on their activity on Facebook, it seems like they have a pretty big team already, meaning that there’ll be a lot of different content from a lot of different people, which is always nice. Lenny will also apparently feature writing from some of Dunham’s celebrity friends, as well as accepting reader contributions. Altogether, it’s hoping to represent the experience of being a young woman in this crazy world, and I think that’s something to get excited about!
